Furman University Student Conduct Hearings
Students at all colleges and universities can face action from their institution for incidents that happen on and off campus. Each university and college has their own rules, standards, procedures, and policies that govern student conduct. These hearings can have consequences from fines, loss of housing, holding of degrees, and other consequences on and off campus. Having an experienced attorney there to represent you and guide you through this process can be invaluable.
ACCOUNTABILITY HEARINGS AT FURMAN UNIVERSITY
Students enrolled at Furman who are notified of a violation of Student Conduct will receive notice of an Accountability Hearing. This hearing will be presided over by a panel of students, faculty, and administrators who will determine whether or not the Student Conduct Code was violated.
A finding of a violation will be on your conduct record with Furman University and can be disclosed to other institutions including graduate schools. Students also can risk expulsion, loss of housing, loss of positions in athletics, clubs, student government, and more.
Students are not allowed to bring an attorney to an Accountability Hearing. Parents are not allowed to attend either.
After the Accountability Hearing, the student is notified if they were found to be in violation of the Student Code of Conduct and penalties, known as Action Items, are provided. These Action Items can include fines, alcohol education, community service, and further penalties for violations.
A student conduct hearing can be a stressful and agonizing experience particularly without the assurance of an attorney to appear with you in the hearing.
